Default El/R, or El/Mes?

I've toyed around with the different secondary classes, and I'm not sure what to have my Elementalist. I've narrowed it down between a Ranger or Mesmer. Anyone have any opinions or experiences with these two combinations? (Mainly the Ranger, because it doesn't seem to be a common class).

Play as both and play around with the skills that you can learn. Find a strategy or a gaming style to your liking.

My personal beleif is that Elemental/Ranger is best, but thats only because im going to choose one myself, lol. It really depends on what you want your character to be and act like. Also for those fashion pplout there, your appearance and armor, as far as i know, will change as well. So really, its your choice. If it comes down to opinion, I think E/R is better, but im not familiar with a mesmer.

GoblinFlesh - your armor "look" is based on your Primary class. It doesn't not change or get adjusted by your secondary class. It matters not if your a e/me or e/r or e/w .. you will still wear the armor of a Elementalist and look like 1.

As for E/R or E/Me .. I've played both and they both can work well together IMO. Just look at the skill listings and think of the way you want to play and see which works better for you Consider how you can combine the skills of either class into attacks together.. if you can't work out a workable combo, don't play that class/class combo. simple as that.

If your really not sure.. just try both out and wonder around pre-searing and test the few basic skills you get there and see what works best for you.

I'm considering re-starting my current e/me tho since I have 8 skilsl on my bar and only find use for 4-5 of them.. the other 3 just sit there doing nothing for me.. LOL I'm not too fussed since this char isn't too far into the game.. but then again, that could be why I have "useless" skills on my skill bar.. heh... then again, maybe I shoyld try different things seeing as I am struggling to beat some fights.... heh (I just don't play enough to be "skilled".. heh)

e/me was fantastic for me although I find at this moment I'm only using the ele stuff in pve - that will change once I'm done capturing - really wish arena net would allow at least SoCs off to the side, and if we cant use what we capture on the spot, so be it.

e/r.. well a lot of the ranger is expertise and you lose that here
however there are nice spirits and some complementary skills

I chose Ele/Ranger cos of the pet. Some would say pets are lame, but I like the way it works in PvE, anyway. The Elementalist's Energy storage helps a bit with the loss of the Expertise (more energy available for both class's skills, as opposed to reducing the energy cost of the ranger skills), but there are some neat Expertise-based skills that are largely useless without an Expertise score.
